- Weiner Dogs Alert Owners to Danger

Tracy Ellis Reporting
kgmi@kgmi.comBLAINE,Wash. -- Weiner dogs to the rescue in Whatcom County and on the other side of the mountains.

The Mount Baker Chapter of the American Red Cross says a Dachshund named Mister Weiner woke his owner up during a fire at their Blaine home on Monday and saved her life.

Maureen Enegren with the Red Cross says the woman woke up to a smoke filled room and had to crawl out of the house.

The home was destroyed. Red Cross volunteers provided her with food, shelter and more for three days.

Meanwhile, a Kennewick family says the worried look on their pet Dachshund's face and his behavior alerted them to an overheated electrical outlet which was about to start a fire.

It was at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Sunday when the dog named Jojo, kept bugging the adults at the house.

The dog owners say he had a worried expression and his ears were at an odd angle.

When they followed the dog to their daughter's room they found him trying to push her out of bed.

The parents smelled a burning rubber and moved everyone outside.
